A LITTLE BACKGROUND

• Hawaii is an island in the middle of the pacific ocean, is the farthest island from all continents; it is divided in seven islands some of the most important are Kauai, Oahu, Maui.
• It was discovered by James Cook in 1778 at that time the king was Kamehameha I.
• At the beginning the island were named Sandwich Islands in gratitude to Count Sandwich.

• The Hawaiian Islands name was first used in the XIX century, and they became a sovereign state until 1898, when the United States managed to annex that territory, abolishing the Hawaiian monarchy and imposing a US-style constitution.
• In 1941, on the island of Oahu, the port complex and military base Pearl Harbor was under attack by Japan before the economic blockade that the United States was exercising. This attack resulted in the active participation of the United States in World War II. Hawaii became official State of the United States on August 21, 1959.
